Neighborhood Music School Showcases Faculty in Free Public Concert Series




Neighborhood Music School (NMS) invites the public to its free Spring Faculty Concert Series beginning Saturday, March 5. The series features a variety of lunchtime and evening concerts which take place in the NMS Recital Hall, 100 Audubon St., New Haven.
The range of dates, times and musical genres means that the NMS faculty concert series has something for everyone! Join us for this free opportunity to hear professional musicians playing in a casual and fun atmosphere.
The series is perfect for drop-in visitors, downtown workers seeking live music to eat lunch by, and anyone looking for a fun, affordable evening out. Convenient, nearby parking is available at the Audubon Court Parking Garage.
Saturday, March 5, 7 p.m. – The Trumpet Shall Sing
Daniel Duncan, trumpet; featuring the Badollet Ensemble with Naomi Senzer, flute and guest Andrew Gordon, piano.  Works by Marc Delmas, Jacque Casterode, Alexandre Cellier and Vincent Bach.
Friday, March 11, 12 p.m. - Juxtapositions of Early Music and Contemporary Compositions
A Program of Early Music and Contemporary Repertoire performed on viols, recorders, modern strings, voice and keyboard. Featuring Julia Blue Raspe, voice & recorders; Marshall Barron, violin & tenor viol;
Grace Feldman, treble viol, bass viola da gamba & violin; Phoebe M. Barron, treble viol, bass viola da gamba, violin & recorders; Ros Morley, tenor viol & bass viola da gamba; and Margaret Ann Martin, keyboard.
Friday, March 11, 7 p.m. - Ragtime Syncopation 
Featuring Viara Albonetti, fiddle; Chris Radawiec, flute; Reesa Gringorten, clarinet; Yun-Yang Lin, cello; Art Hovey, tuba; George Melillo, piano. Pieces include “Elite Syncopations” by Scott Joplin and “The Ragtime Dance” by Harry Mills.
Saturday, March 19, 7 p.m. - From Russia with Soul: An Evening of African-American Spirituals and Russian Song
Featuring NMS Executive Director, Dan Gurvich, baritone; Tiffany Jackson, soprano; and Alexis Zingale, piano. Works by Harry Burleigh, John Musto, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Bulat Okudzhava, including Ne Poi, Krasavitsa by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Litany by John Musto.
Friday, April 1, 7 p.m. - German Romantics
Terrence B. Fay, tenor and trombone with Alexis Zingale, piano. Works by Schubert and Weber, featuring songs from Schumann’s “Liederkreis.”
Friday, April 8, 7 p.m. – Four is the Magic Number
Gretchen Frazier, violin; Bethany Wilder, viola; Yun-Yang Lin, cello; Ingeborg Schimmer, piano; Piano quartet KV 493 in Eb by W. A. Mozart; Bagatelles, Op. 47 by Antonin Dvořák.
Neighborhood Music School (NMS) is the largest non-profit community arts organization in Connecticut and one of the 10 largest in the country. Founded in 1911 as part of the settlement house movement serving new immigrants to New Haven and now serving more than 3,000 students from 80-plus cities and towns annually, NMS continues its mission to create community, spark potential and share joy through the arts.  NMS students, ranging in age from toddlers to seniors in their 90’s, and representing a diversity of socioeconomic backgrounds, study music, dance and drama and participate in over 100 weekly ensembles. NMS offers individual and group instruction on over 30 instruments and presents more than 250 performances and events each year.  NMS also houses a certified arts-integrated preschool, several summer programs and provides over $220,000 in financial


aid and tuition support for more than 500 students each year, including nearly 100 from the New Haven Public Schools.
