In the tradition of the King's Men, Shakespeare's troupe of 13 players, Flock Theater will perform Cymbeline with an ensemble of actors who play multiple roles. The production is directed by Derron Wood and performance dates are: July 16 – 20 and 23 – 27 at the Connecticut College Arboretum. Admission is $15/adult and $10/children.
One of Shakespeare's late plays, the story concerns Imogen, the daughter of the British king Cymbeline, who defies her father and marries the lowborn gentleman Posthumus instead of her oafish stepbrother, the son of Cymbeline's new Queen, a villainous woman who has made the king her puppet. The King banishes Posthumus, and chaos ensues as the lovers try to reunite. Cymbeline goes to war against the Romans, and the battle that follows reveals deceptions and reunites a royal family. A new production for Flock, Cymbeline has been called a tragical-comical-historical-pastoral-political romance with a cross-dressing heroine, a doubting husband, a sly villain, and long-lost siblings who help to save the day.
Flock Theater is a non-profit organization based in New London, CT specializing in classical theatre, puppetry, and education. It has operated for 22 years in New London, CT and has performed the longest uninterrupted outdoor Shakespeare festival in Connecticut for 21 years.
